The FAIR System for Improvement
White Paper go to Knowledge Centre
Improvement initiatives are often launched but less frequently completed or deliver planned results. The goal in itself is not often the problem but the manner in which it is approached. The FAIR System of Improvement requires managers and emloyees to engage in the establishment and development of a systemic approach to effectiveness and efficiency of team, service line and divisional operations.
FAIR is composed of
- Financial and operational forecasting and modelling
- Allocation systems and standards for effective workload management
- Implementation of standards and follow up processes
- Review and learning from performance data
The FAIR system will create
- a positive climate for achievement and improvement
- clarity and equity about performance
- supportive mechanisms for shared problem solving
- challenges to stretch performance and competence
- rewards and recognition for success
The FAIR system is a development cycle that sees a team or organisation mature and develop its capacity and capability for ongoing improvement. The approach in FAIR is to recognise that each organisation or service has its own performance characteristics and these cannot be ignored in setting targets for improvement. The objective in FAIR is to create and sustain performance and thereby engender a continuous improvement culture.
